It seemed like I have to close this email account from now on. Since you mentioned it, I’m also thinking the same about some kind of “phishing”. I have done some tracking towards the sender of the “thank you” mail I mentioned in this discussion, and seemed to me that the certain same guy was the number one suspect to me.
One perfect match was “Kazb”, who was using a photograph of Karen Bartke, an actress appearing in several prime-time dramas, including Monarch of the Glen.
Friends, I just found out a thank you for signing up from a certain paid to click site which I never signed up at.
Panorama purchased the data of 10,000 people from Usdate – a company which sells profiles to sites - and found it included photographs of Brad Pitt, Michael Caine and Rick Stein.
Some of the contact details were genuine, including the email addresses of academics, a House of Lords life peer and BBC employees, all of whom said they had never used a dating website.
I have no idea if this latest story is a result of some of that scrutiny, but a class action lawsuit has been filed against by users of the service who claimed that the company was quite misleading with its own stats.
